Detailed description of The Homestead
The Homestead, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Lakewood, Colorado.
The Homestead Golf Course first opened for play in 2002. The course was designed by Denis Griffiths.
The Homestead is a unique golf course, a bridge between a championship and an executive golf course, a short championship golf course. Offering four sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. The Homestead measures over 5,000 yards, a par 65 with an elevation change of over 200 feet on the course. The Homestead features eight par 3’s, nine par 4’s and one par 5.
There is a complete practice facility with a driving range, target greens, putting greens and a practice sand trap.
The Homestead also offers two different terrains on the Nines:
The Mountain Nine: This course plays in the bowl of Mt. Carbon, once a carbon mine from World War II. The Mountain Nine is surrounded by spectacular vistas of Denver. Throughout the course enjoy quiet streams and tranquil lakes. Be sure to catch the 360-degree view from the tee box on the #13 hole.
The Prairie Nine: Golf the gentle rolling hills of the Prairie nine, part of the former Fehringer cattle ranch. Abundant wildlife and pleasant view of the course can be seen from elevated tee boxes.
Once part of the Fehringer Ranch, The Homestead Golf Course was designed to resemble a working cattle ranch, from the windmill to the cart bar, rustic tee markers and log fencing. The clubhouse was designed to look like a Ranch house.

Blue tees men: 4,735 yards, course rating 61.2, slope rating 106.
Silver tees men: 4,378 yards, course rating 60.5, slope rating 102.
Red tees men: 3,895 yards, course rating 59.7, slope rating 97.
Black tees women: 5,098 yards, course rating 68.4, slope rating 120.
Blue tees women: 4,735 yards, course rating 66.3, slope rating 118.
Silver tees women: 4,378 yards, course rating 64.2, slope rating 113.
Red tees women: 3,895 yards, course rating 61.4, slope rating 108.

The Pro shop staff was outstanding. A fun, challenging course to play. Many elevation changes and the views are great. Great way to work on your par 3/4 golf skills.

Disclaimer: I'm not a golfer who has played a lot of area courses, and my one experience there involved only the front (Prairie) nine. But I am eager to go back. Of the three executive courses I've played in the area, this was the best, and in some ways it's a better test of golf skill than some regulation courses. That is, hitting the ball a long way won't be nearly enough to get you by here; every hole has serious trouble waiting for those who don't plan their targets and hit them. Greens are large and with enough undulation to be interesting but not so much as to challenge the roller coasters at Elitch's amusement park. Note that rates vary with age and residency. And while I wouldn't rate this as a destination golf course, if you are vacationing in Denver and want to get in a quick round you could do a lot worse.

Played again after 3 years. This is a real fun, pretty and challenging course. Ranks with the short courses on the Alabama Trail. Need to have all the shots, if you want to score here. Would definitely recommend you give it a try. The views are worth the admission!

Not your typical "short course". course conditions were rated PAR because good winter conditions (March in CO!) Excellent course to sharpen your iron skills. Highlands/Links type layout. Greens moderately undulating, creating some interesting breaks at times.

A fun little course that's challenging, well kept, but very, very over priced. After I played the course I couldn't really remember more than one or two specific holes, so I thought that was interesting. Pace of play was horrible. Seriously. Very, very bad.
